Bikers across Worcestershire and Herefordshire are invited to attend a free three-hour ‘Biker Down’ course, offering potentially life-saving skills. Two dates are available:
- Worcester, Worcestershire – Sunday 21st May (10am-1pm)
- Peterchurch, Herefordshire – Saturday 17th June (10am-1pm)
The Biker Down course is being delivered in partnership by a number of organisations who all have a vested interest in reducing motorcycle-related casualties and reducing the severity of injuries sustained, including: the Safer Roads Partnership, West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM RoadSmart). The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is today launching their 2017 ‘THINK BIKE’ campaign – aimed at motorcycle riders and other road users – to help reduce casualties and deaths on roads across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia have launched ‘DriveVR’ – an innovative new Virtual Reality app for young drivers and passengers, providing real-life driving experiences and allowing young people to see the outcomes of bad driving decisions to encourage them not to make the same mistakes in real life.
DriveVR is one of the first Virtual Reality (VR) initiatives in the UK promoting road safety messages. Aimed at young drivers and passengers aged 16-24, DriveVR aims to highlight how a split-second decision in the car as a driver or passenger could change the rest of your life. Read more
Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are urging motorists to avoid deadly distractions at the wheel, through a targeted mobile phone enforcement and education campaign which is running this week to crack down on people who continue to flout the law.
The campaign will also raise awareness that from 1st March 2017 the penalties will increase for those caught using a hand-held mobile phone while driving. Both the fine and penalty will double; from £100 to £200 and from 3 to 6 points. Read more
The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia and Telford & Wrekin Council are installing red light cameras in the coming weeks at Trench Lock interchange. The cameras are being installed to reduce the number of road traffic collisions taking place at the junction as a direct result of red light running by motorists. Read more
Warwickshire Police, West Mercia Police and the Safer Roads Partnership are supporting the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) mobile phone week of action this week, by reminding motorists to avoid deadly distractions at the wheel and continuing to crack down on anyone who flouts the law.
During the last national NPCC campaign (November 2016), 695 motorists in Warwickshire and West Mercia were caught using their mobile phone at the wheel by police and issued with fixed penalty notices. Both forces continue to enforce mobile phone safety as a priority throughout the year, and this week is no exception. Read more
Motorists across Warwickshire and West Mercia are being reminded of the dangers of drink driving during the run up to Christmas and the New Year.
Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are supporting the month long winter drink and drug drive campaign (which started 1st December) with enforcement currently taking place across the region. To date, 244 people have been arrested across Warwickshire and West Mercia for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs since the start of the campaign. Read more
