Dying to use your phone at the wheel?

Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police are urging motorists to avoid deadly distractions at the wheel, through a national targeted mobile phone enforcement and education campaign which is running this week (10th – 16th July) to crack down on people who continue to flout the law.  The campaign is taking place across the UK and serves to remind motorists that the penalties increased earlier this year for those caught using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.  Both the fine and penalty doubled; from £100 to £200 and from 3 to 6 points. Mobile speed camera to be introduced on A495 Welshampton

The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia is launching a new mobile speed enforcement site on the A495 in Welshampton, Shropshire in direct response to concerns raised by local residents about the speed of vehicles travelling along the 30mph road.  

 The new site launches next week (w/c 10th July 2017) and forms part of the Safer Roads Partnership’s Community Concern programme, which responds to community requests for speed enforcement. Local residents raised their concerns about the speed of traffic and asked for action to be taken. Read the full post »

Think Bike! Bikers encouraged to attend life-saving Biker Down course

Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police, together with the Safer Roads Partnership, are reminding road users to ‘THINK BIKE’ this summer, and riders are encouraged to register their interest for future Biker Down courses in the region where they can learn essential life-saving skills.

The annual THINK BIKE campaign was launched in March this year with the aim of reducing casualties and fatalities across Warwickshire, Shropshire, Telford, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.  Over the past three years (2014-2016) in Warwickshire and West Mercia there have been 528 people either killed or seriously injured following collisions involving motorcycles. Warwickshire Police crack down on drink and drug driving

Warwickshire Police are reminding people of the dangers of driving under the influence of drink or drugs this summer following 24 people failing the drink drive limit over the past 12 days.  A further 9 people have testing positive over the same period for driving under the influence of drugs.

Drink and drug driving offences typically increase during the summer with more opportunity for people to think they can risk mixing drinking with driving.  The campaign aims to raise awareness of the consequences of driving after drinking and the impact it can have. Read the full post »

The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia launched their summer drink & drug drive crackdown last week and since the 1st June have already detected 24 drivers over the drink drive limit and 21 drivers have failed the drug driving test.

Free ‘Biker Down’ courses in Worcester and Peterchurch – Last few places available!

Bikers across Worcestershire and Herefordshire are invited to attend a free three-hour ‘Biker Down’ course, offering potentially life-saving skills. Two dates are available:

  • Worcester, Worcestershire – Sunday 21st May (10am-1pm)
  • Peterchurch, Herefordshire – Saturday 17th June (10am-1pm)

 

The Biker Down course is being delivered in partnership by a number of organisations who all have a vested interest in reducing motorcycle-related casualties and reducing the severity of injuries sustained, including: the Safer Roads Partnership, West Mercia Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM RoadSmart).
