Go Safe : Be Careful
The Safer Roads Partnership’s young drivers’ campaign focuses on risky driving behaviour and the distractions that face drivers aged 17 to 24 years old.
Drivers in this age group are over represented in road traffic collisions. According to figures from the Safer Roads Partnership, 31% of all collisions in West Mercia involve drivers aged between 17 and 24 years old. Over the three year period from July 2008 to August 2011, 26 people have been killed and 225 were seriously injured following a collision involving a young driver, with driver behaviour being noted as the main contributory factor.
The campaign brings home the consequences of being distracted when driving and graphically highlights, for example, the impact of using a mobile phone or speeding when driving.
